| MAINTAINING
A HEALTHY FITNESS LEVEL
If you are
55 or older, it’s more important now than ever to keep your body physically
fit and in good condition. A strong body and fitness level can help increase
energy, prevent injuries, and chronic disease such as osteoporosis or cardiovascular
disease.
It’s never
too late to begin a moderate fitness program which should include cardiovascular
activities and exercises to improve your overall fitness.
How
A Physical Therapist Can Help
Before you
begin a new fitness program, it’s important to identify any problem areas
that might need extra attention or improvement. Physical therapists can
provide assessment along with suggestions for proper techniques whether
it’s for golfing, walking, bending, or stretching.

Initial
Consultation
The Progressive
Senior Health & Rehab program begins with a complete medical history
by a licensed physical therapist. Next a musculoskeletal exam is performed
which allows thetherapist to assess strength, flexibility, balance and
coordination skills.
We take the
time to listen to your history and to assess potential problem areas in
order to determine your overalll fitness level. The next step involves
providing an exercise prescription. This prescription will detail a fitness
program that’s right for you.
Once the initial
consultation is completed, you begin the exercise phase which is designed
to be done at home.
If during
your initial consultation, a problem is identified which requires medical
attention and possible ongoing therapy, we will provide your physician
with a summary of our findings.
Follow-up
One follow-up
visit will be scheduled to review your exercise plan and modify the program
if necessary. Seniors that participate in Progressive Rehab Physical Therapy programs report excellent satisfaction
with therapy services and treatment.
Free Fitness Screens for Individuals 50 and Over
For years individuals have known the advantages of staying fit through exercise and structured fitness
programs. It is also true that as we age, we are less likely to exercise.
There are a number of reasons for this; some include loss of interest,
lack of motivation, fear of injury, and uncertainty of how to exercise as we age.
Regardless of the reasons, it is important to note that there is a direct correlation between our level of
fitness and our quality of life, especially as we get older. Orthopedic Physical Therapists are particularly aware of this fact: Jo Terry, PT and President of Progressive Rehabilitation in Wilder, KY is taking action to combat this trend by educating individuals 50 and over on the benefits of exercise.
The Progressive Rehab "Fit for Life" program, which is provided free of charge, is conducted at the practice's facility in Wilder, KY.
